Senryu – Reciprocal Love

Do not question love,
when you find your love returned
know you deserve love.

Cinquain – Love Is

Love is
to be desired,
to be given freely.
when love is accepted, love is
returned.

Sonnet – Forty-Five Years

Today would have been their forty-fifth year
together, bound in a love that they shared;
committed from the beginning they cared
and hand in hand they held no earthly fear.

All that they needed was there to hold dear;
with gentle grace they faced the things that scared,
proving the perfection of being paired
together, from when their love became clear.

Being apart does not mean they parted,
when one was left and the other transcends
the mortal journey, love cannot contain.
Their ethereal journey has started,
their love will grow greater and never end;
enduring love which will always remain.

Triolet – Perfect Love

They were my model for perfect love,
because their imperfections were clear to see.
Being together for them was enough;
they were my model for perfect love.
They stuck together when times were tough,
as they protected their perfect family.
They were my model for perfect love,
because their imperfections were clear to see.

Author’s Note:

Today is the forty-fifth anniversary of my mother and father’s wedding. It is their third wedding anniversary since my mother passed away so suddenly in 2018, just a month before what would have been their forty-third anniversary.

Like all of the other special occasions that have come and gone since her passing, we have tried to acknowledge and celebrate; but of course, without her physical presence it is hard to feel like we can truly embrace the the occasion with the joy it deserves.

Mum taught us however to love, above all else, love without hesitation or barriers because love is the most enduring force that binds us together. Not a day has passed without her where she hasn’t been with us. Love is never easy, but neither is life. Love is both reason and reward.

“You’ve gotta dance like there’s nobody watching,
Love like you’ll never be hurt,
Sing like there’s nobody listening,
And live like it’s heaven on earth.”

These poems are a reflection on this moment in which I find myself. They are a celebration of the model of love and compassion my parents created. I am forever grateful for the lessons and love that they provided me and the support they continue to provide as I continue to find my own path and write my own story. I follow in your footsteps forever inspired by you both.

Thank you Mum and Dad, and Happy Anniversary to you both. May your love grow greater still until you find yourselves together again.

Fib – Love

Is
love
a want
or a need?
Is love a desire
or a reason to try harder.

Haiku – Winter’s Warmth

Winter is gentle,
it’s cold caress is caring
until the world wakes.
