Quarter Crazy Poetry Marathon September 2021 – Hour 2

Senryu – Try Harder

Have you tried harder

than you ever tried before?

That is all I ask.

Today is the third Quarter Crazy Marathon of 2021.

The Quarter Crazy is a twelve hour writing event where writers from all around the world write one poem per hour using a prompt uploaded hourly to the Quarter Crazy Facebook group as inspiration for their poems. The event is more than just a writing experience, yes at the end of the day participating poets will have twelve brand new poems to take pride in; but for many of us, taking part is an opportunity to network with a number of like-minded individuals. By reading, writing and commenting on the other poets work during and after the marathon we as poets grow and learn from one another as much as we do from our own writing. Writing is not a right for only the elite few deemed successful by society and sales figures; writing is a intrinsically, profound experience that all of us should embrace and events like the Quarter Crazy remind us that we are all together in this world and that the only barriers that we face in life are those that we hold within ourselves. Join the Quarter Crazy group and the Quarter Crazy Marathon public page on Facebook to stay up to date with the events that run quarterly throughout the year. Join us for the last Marathon of the year later in the year, read and comment on today’s poems if you join the group to show the brave participants who have shared their work that you have enjoyed their writing and help them celebrate the achievement of taking part in this amazing creative event.

Fib – Better

You

will

succeed

because you

try harder each time

and always better than before.

Hour 2

Prompts with a random list of words are usually my favourite and I always try to make the challenge trickier by using all words and in the order they were given.

There are parts of this poem which feel a little rough around the edges, it got away from me a little, over all I like the end result, but it really needs to be refined a little to bring a little more cohesion to the poem as a whole.

The theme of effort and success seems to have inspired the hour and the companion poems and at this early stage of the marathon success is already yours, it just requires a little more effort.

Verse Form – A Fraction More

Give me a fraction of your patience,
I will only take a quarter.
I seek only the joy of conversation,
the love of my creations; like a son or daughter.

My imagination is like midnight,
calm, still, but lost in darkness;
like man-made light I try to control night
bringing only shadows which are thankless.

I try as a desire to impress;
dressed in the dawn like a suit,
waiting to wear the dew on the grass as a dress
adorned with the notes of morning bird’s song.

I travel now to an unknown destination and chair;
where I will rest as I hear only morning’s tone.
The light dancing on my eyes gauzes no glare,
but the darkness remains, turning my body to stone.

Through me the wanderers look at me; transparent
my lifestyle, harsher than they can know. No compromise,
my justification, to me perhaps, is apparent.
No need to study only read what I revise.

Don’t give in too fast to my concession,
curiously you have forgotten to collect;
cut and print your order or impression
for freedom is a right you must protect.

My journey and yours are continuous
fun; from beginning to end of our experience.

Senryu – Take Part

You are a winner;

without completion, you win

because you took part.
