Villanelle – Drinking Coffee

I like drinking coffee when I’m writing
Not that it necessarily helps me think
That caffeine kick feels much like fighting

But when I wake weary it is exciting
To pour that first full-roasted drink
I like drinking coffee when I’m writing

As the aroma ascends it is inviting
Puling those who sleep towards the brink
That caffeine kick feels more like fighting

There is little in which I take delight in
Into my cup I wish to sink
I like drinking coffee when I’m writing

And slipping under the surface would not be frightening
As to my imagination this is the link
For I like drinking coffee when I’m writing
