Haiku – Day to Night
Clear the day of light
and see the world in darkness
beauty in the night.

Today I am taking part in my third poetry marathon, an annual event in which poets from around the world come together writing one poem per hour for 24 hours using a variety of written and visual prompts.
Hour 2 has already required a bit more rushing to get my post up on time, my role as a family carer takes precedent even on days like this where I am taking part in events which require my fullest attention. Yet the prompt for Hour 2 really inspired me, with multiple prompts to choose from I wanted to try and capture a little bit of every prompt and the end result is a poem which has an irreverent playful tone, but one which seems all the more hopeful than my normal work. A change that I am not unhappy with, it has been a long time since I have allowed joy to be my muse as opposed to allowing sorrow to speak for me when called.
You can see the prompt for Hour 2 here, on The Poetry Marathon website.
You can also see my own Hour 2 poem here:
Limerick – Day to Night
Standing in the light,
everything seems bright.
In darkness you can find,
even when you’re blind
the beauty of the night.
