Villanelle – Hard Work
Arguably, I work harder than most
to become the best version of myself
when I do well I do not like to boast
And success often comes at such a cost;
not money, but with our youth and our health
arguably, I work harder than most.
There are days when I would be host
than have the spotlight shone instead on me
when I do well I do not like to boast
but I have never been able to coast
instead I always choose the hardest path
arguably, I work harder than most.
I know I have more substance than a ghost
but people rarely join me when I laugh.
When I do well I do not like to boast.
Without my words I know I would be lost
far from where I simply wanted to be
