The Poetry Marathon 2021 – Hour 4

Haiku – Dreaming

Dream or memory,

perhaps both, never neither

seen or left unseen.

Today I am taking part in my third poetry marathon, an annual event in which poets from around the world come together writing one poem per hour for 24 hours using a variety of written and visual prompts.

Hour 4 started with a change of trousers, regrettably after over a year in full-lockdown I found my favourite pair of jeans had clearly shrunk (either that or lockdown has caused me to gain a little more weight than I’d realised) but feeling slightly more comfortable, I was able to better engage with the prompt for Hour 4 and I really enjoyed getting to grips with this prompt which called for taking a line from a book. I chose to use Andrew Crumey’s 2004 novel ‘Mobius Dick’ which I recently finished reading, and used the last line “How vivid it all was. How soon the dream was finished.”

You can see the prompt for Hour 4 here, on The Poetry Marathon website.

You can also see my own Hour 3 poem here:

Fib – Dream

A

dream

or just

a nightmare

which has become real

after long being forgotten.
