Cinquain – Fire
Burning,
like furious
fire which will consume
all the fuel it can feast upon
within.

Today I am taking part in my third poetry marathon, an annual event in which poets from around the world come together writing one poem per hour for 24 hours using a variety of written and visual prompts.
Hour 11 Through a quirk of fate and tired eyes I have accidentally completed Hour 11 before Hour 10. Not to worry though, I’ll go back and do the skipped hour before moving into the next. Almost at the halfway point and I am ready for my first coffee since I started at 2pm…I have a feeling it will not be my last tonight.
I always really enjoy these prompts, and try to use all of the suggested words in the order they are given. This is an extra challenge to this prompt and it always creates an interesting narrative within the finished poem.
Senryu – Hot Shadows
Some like it hotter
but cannot stand in the heat
when within shadows.

Tanka – Carry On
Don’t stop once started;
your pace may begin to slow,
try to carry on.
A new beginning will come
and with it a second wind.
