Senryu – What Caused My Headache
No more coffee time,
my head is pounding in pain.
Screen glare or caffeine?

Today I am taking part in my third poetry marathon, an annual event in which poets from around the world come together writing one poem per hour for 24 hours using a variety of written and visual prompts.
Hour 12 Half Way Point!
This Prompt was fun, a nice quick form in that of the Nonet. This gave me time to do a slightly longer companion in that of a Sonnet. The theme of coffee makes me think I might just be tired, and to consider that for as much work as I have done today, I still have the same amount to go is a little disheartening considering the exhaustion which has begun to manifest as physical pain. My back, my head, and my eyes are all tired and sore…yet, there is something in the glee of the half-marathoners who have finished their challenge for the day and the next batch who are about to begin that inspires me to keep going. Having caught up a little more, I am close to being able to take a break again, and this is enough for now to get me ready to begin again, a second round of writing ready to begin.
Sonnet – One More Coffee
Isn’t it strange that I still want coffee
when I have just finished another cup.
I do not feel like I am waking up,
my eyes as heavy as half-chewed toffee.
At the start of the day feeling saucy,
my detail is flawed when you look close-up.
A young guard dog who is still a pup,
small things slip by, I feel I’ve been naught.
Doing anything to voice a row;
I remember that I am in control.
It is not about what we can allow,
but to be enjoyed like a quiet stroll.
Learning how to do, and how to get by
working hard, never be afraid to try.

Senryu – Just One More
One more cup I say
again, and again each time
I get to the end.
