Senryu – Time

I have spent my time
wishing I could have done more,
doing what I can.

Cinquain – Your Time

Be bold,
in all you do,
be ready to defend
how you have chosen to spend time:
your time.

Sonnet – Time Waster

Effort expended on a waste of time
is never lost; you are growing greatness.
From a seed to a tree, take time to impress
as your splendour grows slowly to sublime.

You must stay the course steadfast as you climb
with strength, you struggle, confer and confess
when life is hard you seek support, unless
by pushing on you move from peer to prime.

Being the best of a field of just one
takes not just commitment but pure passion
swim in the waves, push against the grain
working hard with a will to still have fun
to resist following against fashion
your pride, payment enough and worth the pain.

Triolet – Your Time

Your time is your own;
do not give it away
Do not do just what you’re shown
for your time is your own.
No time spent can be blown;
do not give it away.
Your time is your own.
Do not give it away.

These poems were written as a response to the Common Cliché writing prompt #6: “A Waste of Time.”

Today’s poems are about having the personal confidence in ones own passions to follow them blindly, to do what makes us happy first. The underlying lesson is to not feel guilty for being selfish, when being selfless comes at the expense of your own wellbeing. Take the time you need to be you, before being anything else for anyone else.

The idea that as long as we spend our time doing something we never waste time, even if that something is nothing more than taking time to yourself.

“Sometimes exhaustion is not a result of too much time spent on something, but of knowing that in its place, no time is spent on something else.”

Tanka – Time

Have you taken time
to do all you need to do?
The things you may want,
may not ever come to be
if you do not give your time.

Haiku – Time

Your time will run out;
whether you give it away
or invest wisely.
