Senryu – Too Long

I have slept too long;
dreams have replaced memory
and nothing feels real.

Cinquain – Short Story

The start

seems far away

until you must return

learning just how much you have grown.

The End.

Pantoum – The Heroes Journey

Coming full circle means you return
to the place from which you started
to reflect on all that you have learned.
Returned to where you finally parted,

to the place from which you started
that will forever be where you are from.
Returned to where you finally parted,
even though it will forever feel wrong,

that will forever be where you are from.
It is only when you learn to start again,
even though it will forever feel wrong,
you may lean there is no need to depend.

It is only when you learn to start again,
that the lesson learned sinks deep within.
You may learn there is no need to depend
on anything beyond that within your skin.

That the lesson learned sinks deep within
is under the control of no one but you.
On anything beyond that within your skin,
you have no influence beyond the truth.

You are the only one in control of you,
yet difference is met with opposition.
You have no influence beyond the truth,
and the honour of your every decision;

yet, difference is met with opposition.
Coming full circle means you return
to the honour of your every decision
to reflect on all that you have learned.

Sonnet – More or Less

Without doing more, this could be enough
effort expended, to ensure success.
Doing more without purpose is too much
hard work without someone else to impress.

There is little need to do anymore
than try your hardest in all that you do;
knowing that your best will never endure
it changes through your life as well as you.

Treat yourself with kindness and great respect
don’t be the worst version that others can see.
Love will find those that life tried to reject
as long as they can find a way to be.

You are the best you can be at all times.
You, who are a vessel, for the divine.

Author’s Note:

All stories seem inherently circuitous by nature and design. Some stories seem to meander like a river. They follow a path carved out by that which came before to a deep, vast ocean; but, they still end up back where they began when they are rescued from that ocean by the sun, to fall as rain in the river once again.

“A story has no beginning or end: arbitrarily one chooses that moment of experience from which to look back or from which to look ahead.”

Graham Greene, novelist and author
 The End of the Affair, The Quiet American

Where the circle begins and ends is the point of experience which you choose to tell your story from. Everything else, before and after, is a reflection upon itself; where there is terror there is hope, where there is sadness there is happiness. Then end is reached on return to a place where once there was ignorance within a place of blissful unawareness, the return to this place always cost the price of recognition that you are no longer the person you once were, you are forever changed and will continue to do so forevermore.

Triolet – The Hardest Step

The hardest step to take
is one which takes you back.
There is a feeling you can’t shake
with the hardest step to take.
Like a habit, hard to break;
it is a time you must attack.
It is the hardest step to take,
the one which takes you back.

Haiku – Cold Grass

Even in winter,

the coldest grass remains green

under heavy snow.
